In the visualisation, Ed wants to express his sorrow and regret for the way in which we ended our friendship. The Green Man is holding Ed back whilst the Goddess and I are looking out to sea, watching a little boy who is my son and I'm unaware of my friend's dilemma. I too want to communicate with him but I feel that the barrier made up of the sand dune and the pebbly beach offers a level of safety and security for us both. I cannot hear Ed's voice as he is trying to speak to me - all I can hear is the sea as it ebbs and flows on the sea shore. Eventually the Green Man lets my friend cross from the sand dune to the pebbly beach. Ed feels free to walk towards me.
This visualisation says to me that the barrier between us is necessary but not permanent. The sand dune symbolises the soft and unsure ground on which he has based his new relationship i.e., shifting sands. Me sitting on the pebbly beach feels like my isolation from my friend and that the road ahead of us is rocky but in the long term the most stable route. Crossing the barrier onto the pebbly beach symbolises that our differences can be settled. I certainly hope that those differences will dissolve.
